BUSPIRONE hydrochloride

Indications & Dose:

Anxiety (short-term use)



Adult: 5 mg 2–3 times a day, increased if necessary up to 45 mg daily, dose to be increased at intervals of 2–3 days; usual dose 15–30 mg daily in divided doses


Children: Not recommended.

Fluoxetine: Reduced therapeutic response to both drugs

Side Effects Or Adverse Reactions:

CNS: Akathisia, confusion, depresssion, dizziness, drowsiness, excitement, headache, incoordination, insomnia, involuntary movements, lightheadedness, nervousness, paresthesia, stimulation, tremor


CV: Bradycardia, hypertension, hypotension, nonspecific chest pain, palpitations


EENT: Altered taste, smell; blurred vision; nasal congestion; red, itchy eyes; sore throat; tinnitus


GI: Constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, increased appetite, nausea, rectal bleeding


GU: Change in libido, frequency, hesitancy, menstrual irregularity


MS: Muscle craps, pain, spasms, weakness


RESP: Chest congestion, hyperventilation, shortness of breath


SKIN: Alopecia, dry skin, edema, pruritus, rash


MISC: Fatigue, fever, sweating, weight gain
