DI-IODOHYDROXYQUINOLINE

Indications & Dose:

Giardiasis, intestinal amoebiasis, amoebic colitis, monilial and trichomonas vaginitis.


Treatment of amoebiasis: 


Adult:  650mg thrice daily for 20 days.


Children: 10 mg/kg body wt thrice daily. 

Contraindications:

Renal, hepatic damage, hypersensitivity & iodine intolerance

Side Effects:

Vomiting, skin rash, visual disturbance. Nausea, dermatitis, itching, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, goitre, headache

Cautions:

Thyroid disease. 

Precautions:

Prolonged treatment in high dosage for more than 14 days may cause peripheral neuritis and optic nerve damage.


Pregnancy, breast-feeding: Safety not established.


Old age: May be given in reduced dose.
