METRONIDAZOLE/FURAZOLIDONE

Indications & Dose:

Diarrhoea and dysentery of all types including amoebic types.


SUSPENSION :Children: Under 1 year, 1/2 tsp: 1-4 years. 1 tsp: 5 years and


over. 2 tsp. All 4 times daily No! (Or infants under 1 month  Tablet:


Adults: 1 tab 3 times daily. 


PREGNANCY X (Contraindicated in pregnancy), B (No evidence of risk In humans)

METRONIDAZOLE: Hepatic encephalopathy. CNS disorders. Pregnancy, lactation. Short high dose treatment not recommended in pregnancy or lactation. 

Interaction:

 METRONIDAZOLE: Alcohol, anticoagulants. Phenobarbitone, lithium.

 METRONIDAZOLE:


Gl disturbance. Furred tongue, unpleasant taste. Leucopenia urticaria, angioedema, CNS disturbances, dark urine. Neuropathy and epileptiform seizures on long term therapy.
