RIFAMPICIN +INH+ETHAMBUTOL

Indications & Dose:

Tuberculosis

DOSAGE:

Adults & Children: 1 tab/15 kg body wt daily one or two hour before a meal. 

Contraindications:

RIFAMPICIN: Previous hypersensitivity to any rifamcyin

ISONIAZID: Patients with previous isoniazid associated hepatic injury or other severe adverse reactions with isoniazid

ETHAMBUTOL: Hypersensitivily to ethambutol. Known optic neuritis.

RIFAMPICIN: Not recommended for intermittent therapy caution patients against intentional or accidental interrruption of daily dosage regimen, since rare renal hypersensitivity reactions have been reported when therapy is resumed Urine, feaces. saliva, sputum, sweat and tears may be colursd red orange

ISONIAZID: Patients with active chronic liver disease or severe renal dysfunction. Isoniazid crosses the placental barrier and passes into maternal breast milk, observe neonates, breast fed infants oi isoniazid treated mothers for any evidence of adverse effects.

ETHAMBUTOL: Reduce dosage in patients with decreased renal functions. Not recommended in children under thirteen years age. PREGNANCY: C (Risk cannot be ruled out)

Interaction:

RIFAMPICIN; Known lo induce hepatic microsomal enzymes that metabolize a wide variety of drugs e.g. metoprolol. propranolol, quinidine, cor-ticosteroids, contraceptives, oral anticoagulants, oral sulfonyiureas, contraceptives, oral anticoagulants, oral sulfonyi ureas

ISONIAZID: The effectiveness of isoniazid may be decreased when administered with cortico steroid The effects of benzodiazepine may be increased The hepatic toxicity of both isoniazid and/or nfampicm may be increased when administered concern itantly.

ETHAMBUTOL: The effectiveness may be decreased when taking concomitantly with aluminium salts

Adverse Effects:

RIFAMPICIN Heartburn, epigas-trie distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore mouth Rash, pruritus, urticaria. Eosmophilia, thrombocytopenia. Muscular weakness, pain in extremities. Visual distrubaces, Haemoglobinuna, he-rnaturia. Mensturai disturbances.

ISONIAZID: Peripheral neuropathy. Nausea, vomiling epigastric distress. Elevated SGOT, SGPT.SGOPT. Agranulocytosis. Fever, skin erupitions. pyritioxme deficiency.

ETHAMBUTOL: Optic neuntis (related to dose and duration of treatment). Anaphylactoid reactions. Anorexia, nausea vomiting abdominal distress Fever, malaise headache dizziness. Elevated serum uric acid level.
