AMANTADINE

Indications & Dose:

Prophylaxis of influenza A virus. Idiopathic parkinsonism, post-encephalitic, parkinsonism in elderly patients in association with cerebral atherosclerosis. Drug induced extra pyra-midal reactions.


DOSE:



Adults: 200mg daily single dose or in 2 divided doses. Max. 300mg per day  for 14 days if necessary extend for a further 14 days for post herpetic neuralgia. Influenza A2 treatment 100mg twice daily for 5-7 days, prophylaxis 100mg twice daily for as required (usually 7-10 days), child 10-15 years 100mg daily. For Parkinsons; 1 tab twice daily for a week tan one tab three times daily. For Zooster neuralgia;1 tablet daily


Elderly A daily dose of less than 100 mg or 100 mg given of intervals of greater than once daily may be appropriate.


 Children


1-9 years: 4.4-8.8mg/kg/day once daily on in 2 divided doses. 
Max: 150mg/day
