Vildagliptin

Indications & Dose:

Type II diabetes mellitus. 
BY MOUTH Adult : 50mg twice daily 12 hourly oral (When used in dual combination with metformin or a thiazolidinedione. It can be taken with or without food. No dose adjustment is required in patients with mild renal impairment The use of vild 50.000 to 100.000 mg 75 (75) 24 hourly oral I(When used in dual combination with a sulphonylurea it is recommended once daily. Doses higher than 100mg are not recommended. It can be taken with or without food. It is not recommended for use in children (less then 18 years) and adolescents due to)
Children: Not Recommended.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Side Effects:

Angioedema, Muscle aches, Fever, Swelling of feet and lower legs, Mild paresthesia., Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Asthenia, Hypoglycemia.

Warnings:

Do not use in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. not recommended in ESRD on haemodialysis patients. Do not use in patients with hepatic impairment, including patients with pretreatment ALT or AST > 3x ULN. Liver function should be monitored during treatment with vildagliptin at three-month intervals during the first year and periodically thereafter. Patients who develop jaundice or other signs suggestive of liver dysfunction should discontinue it. Following withdrawal of treatment with vildagliptin and LFT normalisation, treatment with vildagliptin should not be reinitiated. Monitoring for skin disorders, such as blistering or ulceration, is recommended while keeping with routine care of the diabetic patient.
