Dydrogesterone

Indications & Dose:

Dysmenorrhoea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding,  amenorrhoea, habitual abortion, endormetriosis, infertility due to inedequate luteal phase, premenstual syndrome, adjunct to oestrogen in replacement therapy

Contraindications:

Same as medroxyprogesterone. Breast-feeding.
DOSAGE Adults
Dysmenorrhoea: 5-10mg twice daily from day 5 to day 25 of the cycle. Endometriosis: 5-10mg 2-3 times daily from day 5 to day 25 of the cycle or continuously. Premenstrual syndrome: 5-10mg daily from 12th to 26th day of the cycle. Infertility, irregular cycles: 10mg twice daily from 11th to 25th day for atleast 6 cycles. Habitual abortion: 10mg twice daily from 11th to 25th day of cycle until conception, then continuously until 20th week of pregnancy and gradually reduced. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, 10 mg twice daily (together with an oestrogen) for 5-7 days to arrest bleeding; 10 mg twice daily (together with an oestrogen) from 11th to 25th day of cycle to prevent bleeding. Amenorrhoea, 10 mg twice daily from 11th to 25th day of cycle with oestrogen therapy from 1st to 25th day of cycle & Children Not recommended 

Side Effects:

Same as medroxyprogesterone. Breakthrough bleeding may occur at increased dose.

Old age: May be used.
