Indications & Dose:

Abortion during 2nd trimester, labor induction rarely use.



Adult:  Therapeutic dose for termination of pregnancy: Intra-amniotically; should not be given
continuously for more than 2 days. For the termination of pregnancy during 2nd trimester 40mg by slow injection in 8ml solution containg 5mg/ml into the amniotic sac. A further dose of 10-40 mg after 24 hours may be given if the membranes are still intact.


Children: not recommended 

Contraindications:

Pelvic infection, cervicitis, vaginal infection, (extra amniotic route); history of saesrrean section or major uterine surgery.

Side Effects:

nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, blood loss , uterine nfection, fever.

Incomplete termination; history of allegy, asthma, glaucoma, raised intra-ocular pressure, high tone myometrial contractions.
