Indications & Dose:

Mydriasis and cycloplegia for diagnostic purposes


DOSE


Adult and Child:


• Refraction: Instill 1-2 gtt of 1% sol into eye(s), repeat in 5 min; an additional gtt may be instilled after 20-30 min to prolong effect


• Examination of fundus: Instill 1-2 gtt of 0.5% sol 15-20 min prior to examination 

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to belladonna alkaloids, adhesions between the iris and the lens, primary glaucoma, narrow anterior chamber angle.

Side Effects Or Adverse Reactions:

CNS: Confusion, fever, headache, somnolence, visual hallucinations
CV: Tachycardia, vasodilation
EENT: Blurred vision, edema, increased intraocular pressure, irritation, photophohia
GI: Abdominal distension in infants, decreased GI motility, dry mouth
GU: Urinary retention
SKIN: Dry skin, rash
