Indications & Dose:
Acute lymphocytic and acute granulocytic leukaemias. Acute myeloblastic leukaemia. Rhabdomyosarcoma and disseminated neuroblastoma. l
Adult 0.8 mg/kg i/v and continue with a maintenance dose of 0.8 -1mg /kg Max. 25 mg/kg.
Children Initial dose of 1mg/kg of daunorubicin by i/v daily for 4-5 days, max. 25 mg/kg.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Daunorubicin or any component, CHF or arrhythmias, pre-existing bone marrow suppression. Previous full cumulative doses of doxorubin and/or daunorubicin
Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, bone marrow depression, stomatitis, alopecia, rash, hyperpigmentation, cardiotoxicity, CHF, fever and chills. Diarrhoea, severe local tissue damage and necrosis on extravasation. Anaphylactoid reaction, red urine (not haematuria)

Cardiac, haematological monitoring. Hepatic, renal impairment, children, extravasation.
Pregnancy & breast-feeding: Use with caution.
Old age: Use with caution.
Interaction:
Drugs
Immunisation with live vaccines not recommended as daunorubicin is immunosuppressant. Radiation: Enhanced radiation induced toxicity of myocardium, mucosa, skin and liver. Heparin in solution, aluminium and dexamethasone: Incompatible with these drugs.
