Mitomycin

Indications & Dose:

Chronic lymphatic leukemia, chronic myelocytic leukemia, gastric cancer, colonic and rectal cancer, pulmonary cancer, pancreatic cancer, hepatocarcinonma, uterocervical cancer of the head and neck, bladder tumor.


DOSE


Intermittent administration: 4-6 (potency) , once or twice a week intravenously.


Continuous administration: 2mg (potency) , every day intravenously.


 Masive intermittent administration: 10-30mg (potency) daily at 1- to 3-week intervals or more intravenously.


Concomitant administration with other antineoplastics:


2-4mg (potency) daily, every one to wo week. For administration to specific cases, 2-10mg (potency) of Mitomycin C can be given also into the pleural and peritoneal cavities and, by the arterial route, in a day.


Prevention of recurrent bladder tumors:


4-10mg (potency) instilled into the bladder once a day or every two days. In the treatment of bladder tumors, the usual dose is the equivalent of 10-40mg (potency) instilled into the bladder once a day. In I.V. injectio, maximal dosage a day is 30mg (potency)

Contraindications:

Haemorrhagic tendencies, bone marrow depression, not to be given i.m. or s.c., thrombocytopenia

Side Effects:

Nausea, vomiting, fever, alopecia, pulmonary fibrosis, bone marrow depression, renal toxicity, sterility, stomatitis, amenorrhoea. 

Cautions:

Precautions:

Leucopenia, mouth ulcers. Monitor renal function and haematological status.
Pregnancy & Breast-feeding: Safety not established.
Old age: Use with caution.

Interaction:

Drugs
Vinca alkaloids: Acute shortness of breath and severe bronchospasm have occurred following the use of vinca alkaloids in patients who had previously or concurrently received mitomycin.
