Varicella- Zoster Vaccine

Indications & Dose:

Active immunisation of healthy adults and adolescents found to be seronegative to varicella-zoster.


DOSAGE:


Adults: 2 doses of 0.5 mL by SC Inj. at dose interval of 8 weeks; minimum dose interval 6 weeks.


Children: under 1 year, not recommended; 1-2 years who are close contacts of persons at high risk of severe infection, 1 dose of 0.5 mL

Contraindications:

Acute severe febrile illness. Neomycin hypersensitivity. Pregnancy; ensure adequate contraception during and for upto three months following course. Lactation. Primary or acquired immunodeficiency

Severe skin conditions. Signs of rash, advise to avoid contact with at risk individuals.

Interaction:

Do not give within three months of blood transfusion or immunoglobulins
