Indications & Dose:

Treatment of poisoning due to organophosphate pesticides or related compound. Adjunct to atro-pine in the treatment of poisoning due to pesticides & chemicals of the organophosphate class. Treatment of over dosage by anti-cholinesterase drugs used in the treatment of myasthenia gravis.


DOSAGE:


Organophosphate poisoning:



Adults: 1- 2 gm IM/IV, max dose: 12 gm/24 hour + atropine 2 mg SC/IM repeated at intervals of 5-60 min. Children: 20-60 mg/ kg Anti-cholinesterase over dosage 1-2 gm IV fol-lowed by increments of 250 mg every 5 minutes

Renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.

Interaction:

Morphine theophylline, aminophlline, succinylcholine, reserpine and phenothiazine type tranquilizers.

Warnings:

Adverse Effects:

Drowsiness, dizziness, vision distur-bances, nausea, tachycardia, headache, hyperventilation, muscular weakness.
