Antiwart preparations destroy virus infected cells physically or chemically. Formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, salicyclic acid and silver nitrate cause keratolysis of the wart and surrounding tissue when applied topically. This is a slow process. Patients should be prepared to spend the time paring down their warts and applying wart pain daily for several weeks. They are contraindicated in facial or anogenital warts.

Podophyllin is a cytotoxic drug which disrupts metaphase of cell division and thus kills viralinfected cells
