Indications & Dose:

Treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, acute attack

• BY MOUTH: 

Child 12–17 years: 800 mg 3 times a day

Adult: 2.4 g daily in divided doses

Maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s ileo-colitis

Child :12–17 years: 400–800 mg 2–3 times a day

Adult: 1.2–2.4 g daily in divided doses

PRECAUTIONS: Hypersensitivity to sulfasalazine, renal function impairment, sulfite sensitivity (enema), children

PREGNANCY : has produced adverse effects in a nursing infant .and should be used with caution during breast feeding; observe nursing infant closely for changes in stool consistency

CNS: Asthenia, fatigue, headache, insomnia, malaise, mental depression, weakness

CV : Pericarditis, peripheral edema

GI: Abdominal pain, colitis, consti­pation, cramps, difficulty retaining enema, discomfort; extension of in­flammation to entire colon (rectal), flatulence, hemorrhoids, nausea, pain on enema insertion, pancreatitis, rectal pain, worsening diarrhea

GU: Urinary burning

MS: Back pain, leg or joint pain

SKIN: Acne, alopecia, pruritis, rash,

Stevens‑Johnson syndrome

MISC: Acute intolerance syndrome (cramping, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea. fever, headache, rash)
