| Classification | Classification: Mood or affective disorders are classified as: 1. Unipolar Mood disorder (Unipolar depression) or Major depressive disorder (Le Depression): One or more episodes of low mood and associated symptoms. 2. Bipolar mood disorder (Le Manic disorder): Bipolar disorder is an episodic disturbance of elevated mood with interspersed periods of depression, i. Bipolar I disorder- characterised by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes with interspersed major depressive episodes, i.e manic phase followed by depressive phase, ii. Bipolar II disorder- in this, hypomanic episodes interspersed with depressive episodes, but here depressive episodes are more frequent and more intense than manic episodes. |
