| Introduction | Glomerular diseases or glomerulonephropathies include all the diseases of the glomerulus caused by damage to the major components of it, such as the epithelium (podocytes), the glomerular basement membrane (GBM), the capillary endothelium or the mesangial cells. A few of these are inherited e.g Alport’s symdrome, most are acquired. The acquired glomerular diseases are further divided into- 1. Inflammatory or immune types, e.g most diseases of the glomerulonephritis group. 2. Non-inflammatory or non-immune types, e.g diabetic nephropathy, amylodosis. |
