| Introduction | Black water fever is associated with chronic falciparum malaria. In falciparum malaria there is acute tubuler necrosis & renal failure & rapid intravascular hemolysis which leads to dark or black urine & hence the name. It is most commonly occurs in those who have taken amtimalarial treatment irregularly or are deficient in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. |

| Treatment | Treatment: 1. For hemolysis- prednisolone 40-60mg orally daily in divided doses for 3-4 doses. Then the dose should be tailed off. 2. For anemia: blood transfusion 3. For renal failure: specific measures for renal failure to be taken. |
