| Name | DEVIATION OF THE NASAL SEPTUM (DNS) |
| Cause | For some people, a deviated septum is present at birth — occurring during fetal development or due to injury during childbirth. After birth, a deviated septum is most commonly caused by an injury that moves your nasal septum out of place |
| Signs Symptoms | Difficulty breathing out of one or both nostrils. Headaches. Facial pain. Nasal congestion. Noisy breathing (stridor). Nosebleeds. Chronic sinusitis (inflammation of your sinuses). Snoring. |
| Diagnosis | Clinically and Fiber-optic nasal endoscopy is a diagnostic exam that provides a detailed view of the nasal passages. Doctors use endoscopy to determine the position of the septum and confirm whether any other structural damage or abnormalities contribute to obstructed breathing. |

| Management | Management: Treatment is mainly surgical. If it produces symptoms- SMR to adult & septoplasty for children. |
| Introduction | A deviated septum occurs when your nasal septum is significantly displaced to one side, making one nasal air passage smaller than the othe |
| History | |
| Etiology | Etiology: 1. Trauma is the commonest cause. 2. Variation of the rate of growth of the two sides of the facio-maxillary region. 3. Growth on one side can cause deviated septum to the other side. 4. High arched palate & Heredity. |
| Clinical Features | Clinical features: 1. Nasal obstruction: patient complains of persistent unilateral obstruction & occasional headache. 2. Deformity of the nose. 3. Smell is usually unaffected. 4. Epistaxis may occur in some cases. 5. Ant. rhinoscopy shows the deviation & its type. |
| Preventions | Prevention. You may be able to prevent the injuries to your nose that can cause a deviated septum with these precautions: Wear a helmet or a midface mask when playing contact sports, such as football and volleyball. Wear a seat belt when riding in a motorized vehicle |
| Treatment | The most common deviated septum treatment is septoplasty. If you have breathing problems, frequent sinus infections or other bothersome symptoms, a septoplasty may be an option for you. During a septoplasty, a surgeon reshapes your septum. This may involve adding or removing bone and cartilage. |
| Complications | Dry mouth, due to chronic mouth breathing |

| Pathology | Deviated nasal septum is a frequently occurring condition that can cause nasal obstruction in an individual. It may result in permanent changes in the nasal and sinus mucosa because of altered ventilation of the nasal cavity. The present study makes an attempt to review its incidence and its associated pathology |
