| Introduction | A healthy mother can produce a healthy child- is a worth saying. The good health of a new bom baby depends on the good health of the pregnant mother. To ensure the optimum growth of the baby a careful monitoring of the health of the mother & screening for the ‘risk factors’ are essential, specially during pregnancy. The aims & objects of the maternal and child health care: 1. To ensure optimum child growth during pregnancy & infancy. 2. Protection against ‘risk factors’ during pregnancy and childbirth. 3. Diagnosis & effective treatment of the curable diseases. 4. Arrangement for a safe & unhazardous delivery. 5. Promotion of breast feeding & weaning. 6. Immunization (vaccination) of the pregnant woman & infant in proper time. 7. Promotion of health through information & education on health, hygiene & nutrition. 8. To help the handicaps for rehabilitation. MANAGEMENT OF PREGNANCY1116 Aims: 1. Supervision & monitoring of normal pregnancy. 2. Screening at-risk pregnancies. Management of pregnancy includes: 1. Diagnosis of pregnancy: A proper diagnosis of pregnancy with accurate recording of last menstrual period (LMP) & expected date of delivery (EDD) is essential for management of pregnancy and a safe & unhazardous delivery. For detail- please see in the obstetric section. 2. Antenatal care: This includes- a. Antenatal examination, b. Advices given to the pregnant woman. Every pregnant woman must be examined regularly- - once a month upto 28 weeks - twice a month untill 36 weeks - then once a week untill the onset of labour. - antenatal+.vaccination 3.
