| Introduction | Developmental events in the utero:13 1. Week-1 Fertilization & implantation; beginning of embryonic period. 2. Week-2 Endoderm and ectoderm appear (bilaminar embryo). 3. Week-3 First missed menstrual period; mesoderm appears (trilaminar embryo); somites begin to form; primitive neural tube and blood vessels appear. Paired heart tubes begin to pump. 4. Week-4 Neural folds fuse; folding of embryo into human like shape; arm and leg buds appear; crown-rump length 4-5mm. 5. Week-5 Lens placodes, primitive mouth, digital rays on hands. 6. Week-6 Primitive nose, philtrurn, primary palate; crown-rump length 21-23mm. 7. Week-7 Eyelids begin. 8. Week-8 Ovaries and testes distinguishable; embryonic period closes. 9. Week-9 Fetal period begins; crown-pjmp length 5cm; weight 9gm. 10. Week-10 External genitals distinguishable. 11.
