| Introduction | Acute hepatitis refers to an inflammatory disease of the liver with widespread parenchymal damage. Most common causes are- hepatitis viruses, drugs, alcohol & toxins. The extent of parenchymal damage is variable, but if there is widespread damage, liver architecture may collapse. Acute hepatic injury is usually followed by complete recovery, but chronic inflammatory changes may be accompanied by fibrosis & gradually leads to cirrhosis. |
