| Management | This is usually for CNS Leukemia or prophylaxis. Dilution of MTX : Sterile technique must be used. 1 vial contains = 50mg MTX. Dilute this with 10 C.C of sterile water from a fresh vial. After dilution I C.C = 5mgs of MTX. Write on the bottle the date and strength of dilution as the remaining MTX can only be used for other patients on the same day. Withdraw the required amount of MTX and dilute this with sterile water from a fresh vial to make up 5 C.C of solution. Keep this aside for the intrathecal injection. Technique: Pre- & post procedure precautions are the same as for an ordinary LP. Here the amount of CSF released must be equal in volume to the volume of soution to be introduced. After the necessary volume of CSF is released the intrathecal solution is injected. CSF collected should be sent for FEME & cytospin for Blast cells. Raise foot of bed for 30 minutes after LP. |
