| Management | Site: Posterior iliac crest for all ages. Needle used: Jamshidi needle. This needle has a tapered cutting edge, a sharp inner stylet that projects beyond the tapered distal portion of the cutting edge and a probe. Preparation, of site: as with any other sterile procedure. Technique: 1. Infiltrate the point and surrounding area with LA including the periosteum. 2. Nick the skin with a blade. 3. Insert the jamshidi needle till it is firmly lodged in the bone but do not enter the marrow cavity. Then remove the stylet. 4. Advance the needle further for another 1-1.5 cm, give a twist and remove the needld. 5. Use the probe to push the piece of bone out by inserting it through the tapered end. 6. Make a “touch” preparation of the bone on a slide. 7. Place the bone in formalin solution. |
