| Types | Types: A. According to the involvement of cardiac chambers- 1. Left-sided heart failure- means either left ventricular failure or left atrial failure. 2. Right-sided heart failure- usually means right ventricular failure. 3. Biventricular heart failure- when failure of both ventricles occur, e.g following ischaemic heart disease, or primary left heart failure followed by right heart failure. B. According to the onset & severity of heart faUure- 1 . Acute heart failure- when heart failure develops suddenly e.g in acute myocardial infarction or sever ischemia, exacerbation of chronic heart failure, acute volume overload of the left ventricle (valvular regurgitation) and mitral stenosis. 2. Chronic heart failure- when heart failure develops gradually e.g in hypertension, valvular heart disease. |
