Indications & Dose:

INDICATIONS: With cyclosporin and corticosteroids for prophylaxis of acute rejection in allogeneic renal, cardiac or hepatic transplants.


DOSAGE:


ADULTS:


Renal transplants: 1gm twice daily starting within 72 hours of transplant.


Cardiac transplants: 1.5gm twice daily starting within 5 days of transplant.


Hepatic transplants: 1.5gm twice daily following intravenous therapy.


CHILDREN:


Renal transplants: Under 2 years not recommended; 2-18 years, 600mg/m2 twice daily, upto maximum 2gm daily

Monitor full blood counts regularly. GI disease, hereditary HGPRT deficiency, Elderly

Interaction:

Aciclovir, valaciclovir, ganciclovir, antacids, azathioprine, cholestyramine, probenecid, vaccines, tacrolimus.

Adverse Effects:

GI upset, blood dyscrasis, infections, hypertension, metabolic and CNS disturbances, respiratory disorders, colitis, pancreatitis, intestinal villous atrophy
