Hydatid Cyst


Alternate Name: Echinococcosis

Test:

B.hydatid antibodies (90%+), B.eosinophils (H),sputum microscopy (+ with ruptured pulmonary cyst), hepatic scan (+)

Sign:

Hepatomegaly, jaundice

Dd:

Hepatic or pulmonary tumour, TB, hepatic or pul-monary abscess, amoebiasis, allergies

Phys:

Parasitism of liver or lung by Echinococcus gran­ulosus in the larval stage. Usually due to ingestion, of cysts from faeces of infected canines. Needle biopsy of mass contraindicated. Normal larval host is sheep. Skin Cason' test is no longer per­formed
